In my opinion, container garden is an underrated form of growing your own food in your backyard. If you have limited space or limited areas of sunlight, container gardening is for you. And wool pellets work so well in containers to retain water and add much needed nutrients and organic matter to your soil. At the beginning of each season, I recommend topping off your container with a high quality compost and wool pellets.
To get all the benefits of wool pellets, mix 1/2 cup of wool pellets per gallon of soil and you really just want to focus on that top 3 to 6 inches of soil. The optimum application rate of wool pellets is 2-5% of the soil volume. Wool pellets work best when they are around the roots of the plant. And don't worry if you forget how many wool pellets to add, we include a wool pellet guideline with each order that tells you how to use wool pellets and how many you'll need! Below is a preview of that guideline.
And don't forget you can still plant a lot of vegetables for a fall harvest too, read our blog post about what plants do well in cooler temperatures. And don't forget to amend your soil with wool pellets to give your plants the best start possible.
To really drive home how well wool pellets work in containers, I've attached some pictures of my parent's garden. My parents grow vegetables exclusively in containers because they live in the northwoods of Wisconsin where there is so much tree cover and shade that they have limited space for growing food. But when you nourish your soil naturally with wool pellets, you can increase your harvest even with a limited growing space. Check out the results below:
Can we have a moment for these cucumbers and green beans? They are doing so well and look at all those blooms!
